Melanie grew up in a small farming community where neighbors helped neighbors — no fine print, no fuss, just people showing up for each other. That’s still how she approaches her work today. She’s spent time across a range of medical settings, including long-term care and hospice, which gave her something most benefits advisors don’t have: a real look at healthcare from both sides, the provider’s and the employee’s.

What matters most to Melanie isn’t complicated either — build the relationship first, solve the actual problem, and don’t let the fine print get in the way of people understanding their own benefits. 

At The Afekt Co., Melanie focuses on exactly that: helping employers and their employees navigate benefits with more clarity and a lot less complexity. 

Outside of work, she’s a traveler at heart — she spent time living in Singapore, seeing the world before eventually making her way back home to Houston. Turns out “neighbors helping neighbors” is a mindset that travels well.
